(Lev 19:29 KJV) Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
Women do not become prostitutes because they enjoy strangers taking pleasure from their bodies, they choose (or are forced) to become prostitutes for gain. Prostitution has never been about the joy of sex it has always been about money and still is. Yet any kind of product or service (work) that is not given for free, in love, is being sold for gain, so are we not all prostitutes... when we sell something of ourselves?
I have often been troubled by the phrase - “he sold his soul to the devil”… what does that mean? And how can any man sell his soul… Is it like the gifted artist (someone who creates out of love) signing a contract with a corporation for gain and if so, what can any man gain from some satanic agency and what is ‘invisibly’ sold?
In prostitution the woman (or man) offers their body temporarily for a fee. At least that is tangible, but in selling ones ‘soul’ to the devil, one supposedly offers something intangible for life… so is Satan running some kind of invisible demonic protection racket? We see in the wilderness that the devil offers Jesus the whole world and Jesus declines and later says: (Mat 16:26 KJV) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
So, what is your soul and how much is it worth?
Biblically speaking ‘a soul’ refers to the whole living creature, not to some abstract part that flies off at death, this is generally referred to as the ‘spirit’ which belongs to God…
So it would be a bit difficult to sell that part, since we never own it. However, we do have a certain ownership over our minds and our bodies and what we do with our lives. Seems to me that this is the only part that we can ‘sell’ as such, since what we do with this gift that is the ‘human soul’ or life, is effectively our business, up for grabs or for sale and I very much doubt any one will pay for your dead body (except for medical spare parts), which is why we usually bury the dead, because they have ceased to be of any use. (Mat 8:22 KJV) But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
Personally I feel that I have sold my ‘soul’ so many times over 40 years to different employers, not because I wanted to, just because I needed the money to pay the bills and care for my family… I have no doubt in my mind that I have lived like a ‘whore’ in this world of whoredom and see very little difference between selling my mental "skills" to selling my physical love making skills, both acts, become a pain when circumstances force you to do it. In behaving like this, did I rent my soul out or did I sell it? And is there a better way? Is "more education" the way to make us righteously rich…. or is "more love" - the way of faith and Jesus, what we really need?
Are doctors any better than prostitutes when they profiteer from the misery of the sick? Are lawyers any better than prostitutes when both charge about the same money for their services? Which are more honest and give more customer satisfaction?
(John 8:10-11 KJV) When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
