Unknown to many, we are drowning ourselves in a sea of Babylonian consequences of our own making… as if our knowledge and language were not sufficient confusion.
We have found ‘new’ ways to symbolically represent and continuously expand the contents and complexity of our minds utilizing various opposing and dualistic media. That is from chisel on stone, through various implements used to scribe ink on paper; photo-chemical papers reactive to light; printing presses; stored electro-magnetic modulation of sound on tape, cassettes, disks; electro-magnetic digital modulation of coded text, sound and graphics in electro-magnetic devices together with laser light modulated optical storage and ever shrinking digital memories with increasing capacity. So who and what is it all for?
How much do we really need to know and communicate?
Most creatures have only 3 signals to communicate all that is significant to them:
1.The call to gather for feasting (dinner time)
2.The call to mate, for selective reproduction (sex)
3.The call to danger, for fleeing or fighting (survival)
Whatever the call… love and faith will bring people closer and fear will drive them away.
When Adam picked the first fruit, no tree, bird or animal took down his product selection, his name, his address and his telephone number… that ‘information’ was implicit in his life’s activity and if need be, passed on through his seed. Truth is, everything we really need to know is within earshot, eyeball or skin sensitivity.
Having spent years in the Information technology industry modelling massive databases of information - I have to wonder, who really needed all that information and what was any of it good for?
For my family and I, it was only good for money, but doesn’t that just make me an IT whore… And is pushing information (whether in books, images, song, CD’s or Movies) to entertain or make people feel something different… more ‘good’ than pushing drugs?
As it was, home building pressures and debts meant I had little ‘free’ time for my family anyway and only ever had time for friends during work breaks.
So why would I ever need to know the names and addresses of so many complete strangers that I was NEVER going to call, mail or visit.
Do we now collect ‘faces’ like we used to collect insects or cigarette cards or records or whatever your collectables or memorabilia fetish…. Is being in my ‘database’ the new measure of love and friendship?
