According to dictionary definitions - Civilization is “a society in an advanced state of social development (e.g., with complex legal and political and religious organizations)” and “the quality of excellence in thought and manners and taste”.
When Christopher Columbus first discovered “America” he wrote a letter to the King and Queen of Spain extolling the virtues of the natives of the land with the words that “though they are naked, their manners are decorous and praiseworthy, treating their neighbours as themselves”… sadly, his civilisation then went on to wipe them out with disease, imposition, captivity and enslavement..
So does wearing clothes and being deceitful equate to being civilized and being naked and honest equate to being uncivilized?
Law, Politics and Religion are all imposed artificial human constructs… what bird, animal or fish requires such imposed constructs to fly, run or swim? Yet every bird, animal and fish has implicit and unwritten laws of behaviour, rules of engagement and ways of living.
The problem with such imposed regimes of behaviour, is that they suppress the true nature of men and women. Not only do they suppress the true nature of men and women. They actually repress men and women in such a way, that when the imposition is temporarily released or absent… The nature of men and women springs beyond the natural in ways abnormal and often abhorrent.
Anything that is given a value above and beyond that, given naturally, will always result in deviant and dysfunctional behaviour. Repression begets dysfunction, dysfunction begets frustration, frustration begets anger and anger begets violence.
So called civilization is based on repression of the natural, yet in many ways ‘self control’ is repression of natural behaviour - so how does one balance constructive ‘self control’ with imposed interference and repression.
In nature, ‘self control’ is not an issue, because unacceptable behaviours are not tolerated, are not promoted or are rejected, so creatures are naturally controlled by the inability to pair and reproduce. The concept of Homosexual marriage is fundamentally flawed because natural marriage is for reproduction, not just for affection and the tickles of shared sensual stimulation.
In nature, unwilling partners reject imposition or imposed semen. Creatures that fail to align with life, fail to replicate their failings and this is a perfect system. The point is… what is this ‘self’ that one is trying to legislate for? Is it something apart from life?
So what is civilization?
Is it a deluded democracy of “sinners” living under accepted legal, political and religious practices… somewhat like Sodom and Gomorrah?
(Luke 21:35-36 KJV) For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
