(Eccl 12:12-13 KJV)
And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

The title of this chapter is designed to shock and awaken, since it is as easy to get lost in the virtual world of the written word as it is in the virtual world of beautiful women. Yet which is more real; a photograph of a naked woman or a page of serialized symbols.

I would suggest that God neither made the photograph or the serialized symbols - these things are both creations of man. However, as both a photographer and a writer, I can see how God can be both acknowledged through the capture of what he has created in photography and in descriptive text, but to what end, since God needs neither?

God is fully aware of creation and does not need men to take pictures or write books about his wonders, it is all self-evident to anyone with one eye and half a brain.

Such photographs and books are only necessary to bring an awareness to those who are unaware of what a beautiful woman looks like or unaware of the majesty of God. Sometimes these things are necessary to inspire and encourage those locked away from the reality of life, whether incarcerated by others or locked away in fear or ill will.

Many people keep photos of their loved ones with them to bring joy while they are away, and often to remind them of just why they keep going.

There is a thin line between ‘art’ (what is done for love) and ‘pornography’ what is done for (pleasure or money). The motivation of the photographer and the writer is as important as the motivation of the observer and the reader. A father’s photograph of an innocent child can be turned into a pedophile’s desire and a gynecologists’ photograph of a woman’s genitalia can be turned into pornography by wrong context and twisted desire.

Ultimately, the ‘sin’ is in you. God made everything perfect; the “evil” comes from twisted knowledge and ironically from the ways of supposedly adult men and women.

To become lost in a virtual world of either pornography or scripture is wrong for one reason only, it is a virtual world and is little different from becoming lost to alcohol or drugs or any other substance or activity that can rule over your life to the exclusion of what really matters….. Love (unity under God), truth (humble honesty) and life (the living creation).

When I spend time with my children, I do not need photographs of them. Such photographs are reminders only and become more important as we grow older and apart.

So if you love and spend time with God, do you need to submerge yourself in old texts and books… is this not like eating someone else’s stale bread, perhaps as a reminder?

(Mat 6:9-11 KJV)
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
