(Gen 4:14 KJV) Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
.
There are approximately 7 billion people on the earth, few are rich and many are poor. Many are comfortably at peace, while many others face troubled times, hunger, sickness and the violence of war. How many cry out to God - “What about me?”
As the father of 5 children whom I loved dearly, it was sometimes a struggle to give them all the attention they needed - sad to say I was often busy elsewhere earning money to pay bills or building the infrastructure for a house where we could all live in peace and be happy.
Am sure my children would have preferred my time when they were younger, but at that time, we needed the money to pay for the space, food, stuff and services that we ‘needed’ to live a ‘normal’ life in the western world. In retrospect we both lost out, since without the giving and spending of time with one another, where is the love?
Sure, I loved my children and still do, but what was their perception of a man that was rarely at home, rarely had time to play with them and when he was home, he was usually always busy fixing something or telling them off for breaking something?
Even ‘gorillas in the mist’ do a far better job of fatherhood than we in ‘civilised’ society.
So why are we human beings these days always too busy for our children?
· Land - Someone took ‘ownership’ of the land and put a price on it. Therefore we now have to either spend all day fighting for a place to live; sell our souls into business at our neighbours expense to raise the capital or sell our souls into debt to the banking system to borrow the asking price, so that we can live now and pay later.
· Food - Much of the arable land where we live is built out and town property fetches premium money, few people living in cities and suburbs grow their own food so we need to haul in our food from further out where it is grown, raised, cropped, packaged, transported to retail businesses where again, we need money to buy it.
· Energy - No civilized home is complete without running water, electricity and gas - so these natural resources and services are consumed at a cost for supply and maintenance.
· Communication - No civilized society is complete without transport capability roads, rail, ferries, airports and now the internet - all of which cover the land and need to be funded.
· Governance - No civilized society can survive without the establishment of policies and laws that govern human behaviour from birth to death and this requires taxation to fund policing, health services, education, new work skills and payments to pacify the unemployed.
Isn’t it ALL just too complicated for any ONE to juggle fairly and equitably, long term? And if not, why has each successive civilization failed? And why do depressions and wars continue to plague humanity? Would a world government solve any of this or can you?
(John 14:15 KJV) If ye love me, keep my commandments.
