(Gen 4:14 KJV) Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
Cain was the first recorded ‘killer’ in the Old Testament, though not the first criminal since Adam by breaking a direct commandment earned that epitah. We see immediately that crime begets crime and it begs the question, how come people can break the law when God is running the whole show? Surely God, being omniscient and omnipresent, should be able to step in at any time and prevent any crime from occurring, somewhat like the angel did when Abraham was about to slay his son Isaac. So why are criminals allowed to have free reign and get away with it?
One may as well ask the question - how come some children rebel and disobey their parents?
There are at least two forces involved here… consciousness and conscience. Consciousness, like most things in our universe has three modes of operation: 1. there is unconsciousness - which is benign. 2. Self consciousness - which is dangerously disconnected. 3. God consciousness - which is harmoniously attuned.
A conscience is instilled in the ‘self conscious’ through the introduction of social law, which establishes right and wrong in our minds, through reward and punishment…. Though intended to bring us back into alignment (faith) with goodness and God, very often social laws are imposed over the many, for the benefit of the few… which gives rise to a chain reaction of immoral and social injustices which though by nature criminal, remain unchallenged because they are unaccountable in the law of the day.
When unconsciousness overrules self consciousness we are dead to the world and when self consciousness over-rules God consciousness, we are dead to God.
In other words our self consciousness blinds and deafens us to God, just as teenagers in their rebellious years turn a deaf ear to their parents’ voice…. So in ‘self consciousness’ we do whatever we want to please (tickle) our selves (senses and emotions) without any accountability or conscience. Such is the real nature of sin and crime… and who is innocent?
Every human being comes from an innocent sperm that teams up with an innocent egg and each cell divides innocently for nine months to construct an innocent babe… no child has to stress and strain to breathe, to digest food, to grow hair or develop into a man or woman… So no human being consciously creates their self… this is ALL an act of God consciousness, nature or chemistry… call it what you will. The point is, it happens automatically… when you were an embryo did you strive or worry about where your next meal was coming from or stress over taxes or pending death?.
The problem with ‘self’ consciousness is it drives us to act from experience in an attempt to solve all our problems from our memories…it strives and has no faith in the provision and power of God. … Ironically, it is the root cause of all of the problems we try to solve.
(Mat 18:3-5 KJV) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
