As I sit in this rented lounge room, I look around the room bearing witness to my black wrought iron and glass coffee table, upon which sits a book on biology; my mobile phone; a portable phone; A plastic box holding the drugs to numb my mother’s pain from post operative breast cancer treatment; A remote TV controller; My leather wallet; My car keys; A box of tissues; A bamboo place mat; Several rattan coasters; two glasses of water; several used tissues and a ceramic bowl containing some ageing grapes. The room is carpeted in man made fibre with two leather lounges, one empty and supporting the resting body of my 79 year old mother while I sit opposite on a third couch made of metal with a futon mattress, writing this text. To my right is a TV switched off complete with a DVD and Video player.. To the left of the TV is a book shelf containing many books on many different topics, together with a chaos at each end of my children’s toys; photo frames with other artifacts; rocks and shells; And lastly a glass bowl of navel oranges; A ceramic dish of limp bananas and a pot containing a Yucca plant. I could go on, but it seems to me the only “life” in my house, is my dieing mother; my dieing bowl of grapes, bananas and oranges; my Yucca and me. The rest is already comfortably dead while my yucca and me are comfortably dieing…
Like a frog in a pan of water on the burner… we are comfortably oblivious to our neglectful journey to our potential hell.
So why did Moses lead the ‘Jews’ out of Egypt and take them into the wilderness in search of the promised land?
And why did John the Baptist and Jesus reject the Roman way and go into the wilderness and put their lives on the line to lead the world to heaven?
Egypt, Babylon and the World are artificial constructs and no amount of money, music or materialism can restore earth to heaven…. They are artificial treasures that maintain human delusion and human vanity… like alcohol and drugs, they sustain our comfortable oblivion and maintain a state of delusion to ‘escape’ the inevitable realities of life and death.
Any child born into an environment is subject to the way or lifestyle of that environment and becomes accustomed. Children that live miles from the ocean, do not learn to surf.... This is not rocket science, this is just natural development (evolution)… if you don’t have natural access, the need or the desire, why would you develop the capability?
Our cities and roads bury the earth, our cars pollute the earth, our produce consumes the earth while we eat, drink and make merry with music and entertainment.
All human treasures, apart from ‘our seed’, are manipulations of the earth at the expense of heaven…. So do they have any real eternal value? Such treasures are an iconoclastic and egotistical escape from loss of life’s meaning, they are not the ‘way of heaven’.
(Mat 6:19-21 KJV) Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
