(Gen 30:37-39 KJV) And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree; and pilled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstreaked, speckled, and spotted.
This is the first reference in scripture of men deliberately changing the environment to effect the offspring of creatures. Jacob discovered that certain branches in the drinking water of the cattle affected their offspring.
(Gen 30:41-43 KJV) And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods. But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's. And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
Was this achieved through “witchcraft”, “magic”, “knowledge”, “science”, “religion” or “genetic manipulation”?
It was achieved by deliberately utilising the knowledge of observation - the right and wrong of what Jacob did, needs to be carefully weighed against the deceitful way Laban “enslaved” him for over 14 years for the woman he loved.
Somehow genetic engineering, that is not free and natural, is always achieved for and by deception and it is sad to think that humanity pursues such contrived evolution with a view to create preferred characteristics in the offspring of creatures and eventually in it’s own offspring as if humanity has the wisdom to future proof the ‘tree of life’.
In natural selection, free from fear and deception - a naked man when courting a naked woman can see exactly what he is getting. A naked woman can also see exactly what she is getting involved with… and the potential offspring are implicit in the true nature of the pair. All other free creatures manage to sort out their “genetic” choices without the aid of human contrivance or deception. In nature the males or females are selected in the context of the whole: physical, mental, emotional, behavioural, spiritual and what ever other “als” may exist….. not just in the context of the Chemical or DNA.
Every genetic change or alteration made by humanity to offspring, no matter how wonderful the resultant may appear in the short term… is potentially creating a “Frankenstein monster” for the future… We already know the ill effects of introducing inappropriate though well intentioned species into other eco-systems. It is dangerous for humanity to manipulate the “cells or DNA” of life, because the “rationale” of humanity can never compare to the pure heavenly motives that has provided the amazing diversity of life on this planet and that, without our aid, brought us into existence. However, all such artificial changes, though “marvelous” are potentially destabilizing and unsustainable.
(Mat 15:13-14 KJV) But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
