In our mechanical world, when a machine fails to do what it was designed to do, we usually find a big label on it that reads “OUT OF ORDER”. And that is how it usually remains, until the manufacturer or his representative comes to fix it. A human being is a complex creature, one living soul, consisting of many parts that can be damaged, malfunction or become infested in some way, putting the whole being “out of order”.
God keeps the human heart beating approximately once every second and pumps blood to every cell in our bodies. Why does the heart keep beating and why is a child generally molded safely in a womb for 9 months, if God wants it suffering or dead? Like the nucleus in an atom or any living cell, our “heart” is the summation and encapsulation of our whole soul. Between the centre and the exterior there is a measure of space, wonderfully interlinked by a network of many moving cellular cogs, wheels and flows we call our life, which together form a unity that is our ‘well’ being. So why do we fall “sick” and how do we fall “sick” or “out of order” from time to time?
(Deu 6:5 KJV) And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Love is what unifies our being and nothing can enter or interfere with our God given unity unless our heart, soul or activity is compromised or divided in some way… Anything that penetrates the heart and soul has the capacity to divide and damage which in turn causes the chain reaction of dysfunction and disease.
We are all familiar with the ensuing dysfunction and disease caused to our bodies by a wound, a trauma, stress, a broken bone, inhaled fragments, toxins, parasites, atomic radiation and our enemy’s weapons of mass destruction, etc…
But what about the damage caused by our family and friends, those bound in ‘love’, with ‘trusted’ access to our heart... a broken relationship, a betrayal of faith, a harsh word or a curse?
And what about our own inner conflict between heart and soul… guilt, unforgiveness, etc?
Symbolically, “The tree of knowledge” is the first causal principle underlying the breaking of ‘faith’ and unity with life and God, dividing human experience from a single truth. It is so important that we understand 'primary causes' otherwise we continue to wrestle with the symptoms and all our attempts to fix our problems are flawed. Social problems like sexual promiscuity, drugs, gambling and suicide are symptoms of our dysfunction... they are not the cause. One cannot fix a dripping tap, by outlawing the drops.... the effects (of the causal principle) will just continue to flow elsewhere..
Like “splitting the atom” from creation, “splitting Adam” from the creator, causes a “fall out” and chain reaction through the generations, which is incomprehensibly and invisibly destructive….
(Mat 21:19-20 KJV) And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
